AEW Rampage 11/19 Norfolk, Virginia

By Allan “AWESOME” Proskin

Its Friday night, and you know what that means!

We are welcomed in to Rampage by the four-man commentary team of Excalibur, Taz, ABSOLUTE Ricky Starks, and Le Champion Chris Jericho.

Darby Allin w/ Sting def. Billy Gunn w/ Gunn Club

Can I just say, Billy Gunn looks absolutely incredible! He hasn’t aged a bit and is in TREMENDOUS shape! There’s a Mr. Ass chant which had me laughing. Its a very slow start to this match. Billy Gunn was just tossing Darby around. We then get a brief stare down between Billy and Sting. There’s a small part of me that kind of wants to see that match, but knows it won’t be that great. Billy mocks Sting then does the SUCK IT sign and tries to do the Scorpion Splash to Darby, who moves out of the way. It takes Two Coffin drops to put Billy Gunn away.

Post match, the Gunn Club run into the ring to beat down Darby. Sting comes in with the save but Billy re-emerges and beats down Sting. The Gunn Club raise their hand as the segment ends.

Next, we get a replay video of the MJF and Punk confrontation.

Tony Schiavone is in the back with QT Marshall. QT is calling out CM Punk for a match at Dynamite in Chicago. Weird, but ok.

Back from commercial, and we see a video package of the Inner Circle talking about their Full Gear match against Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky and American Top Team. We then see Ethan and Scorpio talking about how this feud is not over and American Top Team will return.

TBS Championship Tournament. Jade Cargill def. Red Velvet

This match started STRONG! Both women just going at it with each other! Jade is just such an impressive specimen! Jade was in control the majority of the match. Very dominant. Red Velvet tries to make a comeback but can’t capitalize. Jade will face the winner of the Thunder Rosa vs. Jamie Hayter match which will take place this Wednesday on Dynamite.

Speaking of Thunder Rosa, we see her in the back talking about her upcoming match. She insults Hayter in Spanish. We even get a bleep out. Wonder what she called her?

We then get a hype video with the matches that were announced this past Dynamite in preparation for next week’s Dynamite.

Next, Tony Schiavone is again in the back with CM Punk. Punk talks about how he’s won and lost in Chicago. He accepts QT Marshall’s challenge.

We then get a video recap of this past Wednesdays altercation with Bryan Danielson and Adam Page.

Confirmed for next week’s edition of Rampage: Eddie Kingston vs. Daniel Garcia.

We also get confirmation that Winter is Coming….AGAIN! Last year’s Winter is Coming event saw the return of the icon Sting. It was also when Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to become the AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Will we see another debut or title change? We will find out December 15th.

We then get the backstage interview with Mark Henry where he interviews the contestants in the main event. It obviously gets heated between the two teams. And with that – it’s Main Event time!

Jurassic Express def. Adam Cole & Bobby Fish

Cole’s music is so good! The “Boom” and “Bay Bay” gets a huge reaction from the crowd (like always). Speaking of catchy theme songs, here comes Jurassic Express! This has potential to be a very good match! These are four incredible athletes who are ready to take this company on its back and run with it. We get a “Luchasaurus, Bobby Fish!” chant. Speaking of Luchasaurus, did you know he was on a season of the U.S version of the reality game show Big Brother? So if you want to see him without his Dino mask, you can!

This was a pretty back and forth match. Obviously the Young Bucks come out to interfere but Christian comes out with his best friend…the chair! He chases the Bucks and even Adam Cole to the stage area. So Cole left Bobby Fish alone in the ring?! Weird! Fish taps out and Jurassic Express pick up the win. Adam Cole is still yet to be pinned or submitted in AEW.

We then see highlights of this match, and then cut to Jurassic Express and Christian raising their hands as the Superkliq look on from the ramp.

I’d say it was a semi-decent Rampage. I’d grade it a B-. Jericho on commentary is amazing! He’s super talented at everything he does. Are they setting up Cole vs Fish at some point?

With that being said, I’ll bid you farewell and see you next week for AEW Dynamite in Chicago!
