Ranking every Royal Rumble 20-11

By Allan “AWESOME” Proskin

20) Royal Rumble 2014 (Winner: Batista {2})

Welcome to the Top 20! And welcome to CM Punk’s last Rumble. I think he was concussed most of this match. Either way this was an exciting Rumble. The shield had a huge presence in this match. In fact,Reigns was in the final four AND broke Kane’s record of 11 eliminations, only by one though. Still that record held strong for a solid 13 years! In the end it would be the Animal Batista picking up the win in this Rumble. He would end up in the Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania XXX which saw Daniel Bryan win both the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista and Orton. After beating Triple H earlier in the night. I’m sure I’ll rank all the WrestleMania’s but for now let’s continue with the Rumbles.

19) Royal Rumble 1999 (Winner: Mr. McMahon)

Where do I begin with this? Let’s start by talking about the obvious and how ridiculous it was to make yourself the winner from the number 2 spot and legit be gone the majority of the match?! I mean if I owned the company, I totally would have done the same thing. The fact that Austin didn’t win this to cement his Royal Rumble legacy is a shame. Still, I have a fond memory of watching this ridiculousness with my friend and for that reason alone is why this Rumble is where it is. The outcome may have been insane but at the time it was a kind of entertaining Rumble.

18) Royal Rumble 2017 (Winner: Randy Orton {2})

This was another Rumble where I thought Hey, maybe Jericho will win this one?! Then he came out at number 2 and my prediction was looking grim. Then he made it to the final four and I’m like maybe this is the year! NOPE! Let’s give it to Orton for a second time. In this year Orton became the seventh wrestler to win multiple Rumbles. This was a star-studdedRumble with the likes of Goldberg, Undertaker, and Brock Lesnar. It didn’t matter though, because it was Wyatt Family member Randy Orton who would get the win and go on to face Bray Wyatt who would win the title with the help from Orton. That was a weird feud but that’s for another ranking. On to the next Rumble.

17) Royal Rumble 1997 (Winner: Stone Cold Steve Austin {1})

Now onto Austin’s first Rumble. Not that many big names but it did have some fake superstars added to the mix. At this time Kevin Nash and Scott Hall have left WWE and went to the competition WCW. They’re characters still were under contract though so time to introduce Fake Diesel and Fake Razor Ramon. The other main story of this match was the way Austin won. He was eliminated by Bret, but the refs didn’t see so he went back in and then eliminated Bret. Still, this was a historic moment as the tides were turning. Bret and Austin would have a memorable match at WrestleMania 13 which would skyrocket Austin to the moon of popularity!

16) Royal Rumble 2013 (Winner: John Cena {2})

If you didn’t figure out the outcome of not only the Rumble match itself but the WWE Championship, then you didn’t watch on a regular basis that year.Obviously, the Rock was going to beat CM Punk end the streak and win the title. And obviously Cena was going to win his 2nd Rumble and go on to face the Rock a second time in a row at WrestleMania. If you were surprised Cena won while watching it, then good for you and welcome to the predictable age of the Royal Rumble. Top 15 here we come!

15) Royal Rumble 2007 (Winner: The Undertaker)

The 2007 Rumble had a couple of firsts in the history of the match. The first one being the Undertaker winning the Rumble for the first time in his illustrious career which is shocking! The man has been around since 1990 and he just NOW wins the Rumble?! Very interesting. This was also the first time that an entrant who drew the number 30 spot, won the match! If the number 30 spot was the best, then how come it took 19 years for someone to win from that position?! Either way it was the Undertakers time to shine as he eliminated HBK to pick up the win. Taker would have a great match at WrestleMania 23 against Batista. Onward and upward, we go!

14) Royal Rumble 1995 (Winner: Shawn Michaels {1})

History was made this night as HBK would win the entire Rumble from the number 1 spot. I’m sure you’ve heard the infamous quote from the Fink, “Only ONE of Shawn Michaels feet hit the floor!” it’s a quote that will always be played when showing the history of the Royal Rumbles. Shawn got back into the ring and eliminated a celebrating British Bulldog who had thought was the winner. There was also a lot on the line in the match. Not only a shot at the title at WrestleMania but Pam Anderson! That’s right whoever won the Rumble would be escorted to the ring at WrestleMania by Pamela Anderson. Still, this was a historic Rumble, one that is worth being in the Top 15. Speaking of winners from the number 1 spot, its time to talk about the “2nd” superstar to win from that spot. Here we go!

13) Royal Rumble 2004 (Winner: Chris Benoit)

Ok listen, what had happened was and still is an absolute tragedy! That’s all we’ll say about that so let’s talk about his Rumble win. You can do your best and try to delete this from the history books, but his win happened, and he did it from the number 1 spot. A few other noticeable moments were Mick Foley showing up and attacking Orton, setting up their feud. We also got a tease of the Undertaker’s return. A couple months prior he was buried alive by Kane, so this tease was a build up for that. I remember going nuts when the gong hit as I was watching in a packed Hooters restaurant stuffing my face with hot wings. Next Rumble!

12) Royal Rumble 2015 (Winner: Roman Reigns)

A lot happened in this match! This was the start of the fan’s turning on the next face of the company, Roman Reigns. The fans then didn’t want him as THE GUY but there was nothing they could do. Even with the appearance of The Rock, nothing could be done to stop the fans from booing. The fans really wanted Bryan to win but when he was eliminated, they kept switching picks. That Philly crowd was very disappointed that night and rightfully so. This was the age of the Authority after all. You remember when all the McMahon’s stood in the ring and said that they’ll listen to the fans, yea BULLSHIT! If they listened, then they wouldn’t of had Roman win. The Authority had their way that night and the crowd let them here it. On to the next one.

11) Men’s Royal Rumble 2018 (Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura)

This was a shocking one for me. I remember watching this live and thinking there’s no way in hell Nakamura is going to win. Especially with who was in the final four. Balor, Nakamura, Cena and Reigns. I honestly thought Cena was going to take his shovel out and do some burying, but that didn’t happen. I was also glad that Roman was the last one eliminated. Nakamura would then immediately announce who he would be facing at that years WrestleMania. AJ Styles! Which leads us into the Top 10 best Rumbles!
