Brother of the recently passed Ring Of Honor legend Jay Briscoe, Mark Briscoe will make his AEW Dynamite debut on the January 25th edition of the show. This is following a change in policy from Warner Bros. Discovery after the Briscoe’s were banned by the firm from appearing on AEW Tv after homophobic tweets from Jay Briscoe back in 2013. That policy reportedly didn’t change after Jay’s sudden passing on January 17th. However Tony Khan announced that Mark Briscoe will go one on one with Jay Lethal on what would’ve been Jay Briscoe’s birthday, to celebrate the life of the former ROH World Heavyweight Champion.
During an appearance on the Battleground podcast, Tony Khan spoke about Mark’s match on Dynamite, saying that he had to fight hard to get the match approved. Khan said:
“It’s going to be a great match to honour a great man. These two men requested this match. Wednesday would be the 39th birthday of the late, great Jay Briscoe. His longtime friend and rival, Jay Lethal, and his brother, Mark Briscoe, wanted to have this match to honour the legacy of Jay Briscoe and I fought hard to make it happen and I’m really excited about the match, said. I believe it’s going to be a great one and it’s great that they’re going to be able to honour the legacy of somebody that everybody in pro wrestling has so much respect for, the great Jay Briscoe, on his 39th birthday. With everything happening, this is going to be something really great for everybody in the locker room who is rallying around the Briscoe family.”
