Another episode of Smackdown is in the books and it was another solid, if not spectacular, edition of the show. We saw storylines advanced and matches made for weeks down the line giving the show some good creative direction. Here are our top 5 moments and match ratings from this week:
Top 5 moments:
5 Championship matches made for weeks in advance:
Three championship matches have been booked for the forthcoming weeks. First we’ll see Xavier Woods take on Intercontinental Champion Gunther on next weeks Smackdown after a couple of wins over LA Knight. Also newly crowned Women’s Tag Team Champions, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez will defend against Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green next week, and there will be a rematch for the Tag Team Titles after the epic Wrestlemania encounter between the Usos and Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn. Plenty to look forward to.
4 Is LA Knight floundering?
As mentioned above, Xavier Woods scored another win over LA Knight this past week. Woods rolled up the “megastar” and grabbed the tights for the win. After not appearing on the Wrestlemania card and being quite directionless in general, it’s difficult to see what’s next for LA Knight as he’s done a good job of getting himself over despite creative restraints. Rumours are he’s a contender for the Money In The Bank briefcase, but at the moment he’s in limbo a little bit.
3 Judgement day/LWO feud looking strong:
After the excellent father v son clash at Wrestlemania between Dom and Rey Mysterio, the feud has continued on with members of Judgement Day and the newly formed LWO. Solid action again on Smackdown between Damian Priest and Santos Escobar, the match picked up well and the crowd were really into it towards the end. It’s certainly interesting to see how the feud continues on through Smackdown and most likely Backlash.
2 Nakamura is back:
The King Of Strong Style is back on Smackdown after months out on hiatus. Nakamura got the customary entrance which the crowd loved, and squashed Madcap Moss in about 1 minute to establish himself back in the Smackdown picture. Signs pointing to Karrion Kross being Nakamura’s next feud. Not the most impactful return, but it’s nice to see him back.
1 Solo is a beast:
A lot of focus was placed on Solo Sikoa this week as The Bloodline’s enforcer made his presence known. Solo looked like a destroyer throughout the show and the commentators played up his significance to The Bloodline. Solo beat Riddle in the main event and then slammed him through table, and then burying him under it. He certainly looked like a monster here.
MATCH RATINGS:
Xavier Woods def LA Knight 2.5*
Damian Priest def Santos Escobar 3.25*
Nakamura def Madcap Moss 0.5*
Solo Sikoa def Riddle 2.75*
