Will Ospreay has moved one step closer to his potential showdown with Kenny Omega.
During NJPW Resurgence, Ospreay clashed with Hiroshi Tanahashi in a thrilling first-round match of the tournament to determine the next challenger for IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega. In an intense battle, Ospreay emerged as the victor, executing the Stormbreaker to secure the win.
With this impressive triumph, Ospreay advances to the next round of the tournament, set to take place at NJPW Dominion on June 4. There, he will face off against Lance Archer, and the winner will earn the coveted opportunity to challenge Omega for the title. As of now, the date for the title match remains undisclosed.
Archer earned his place in the finals by defeating Fred Rosser at NJPW Capital Collision. Originally scheduled to face Juice Robinson, Archer’s opponent was substituted due to Robinson’s suspension resulting from his actions at NJPW Capital Collision.
Omega claimed the IWGP US Title by defeating Ospreay at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4. He most recently defended the championship against Jeff Cobb during the March 29 episode of AEW Dynamite.
