Adam Cole Contemplated Wrestling School as a Post-Retirement Plan Following Concussion

During AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022, Adam Cole sustained a concussion while vying for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title in a four-way match against Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, and Hangman Page.

The recovery process proved challenging for Cole, leaving his wrestling future uncertain. However, to the delight of Cole and fans alike, he made a triumphant return to the ring on the March 29 episode of AEW Dynamite, facing off against Daniel Garcia.

In a conversation with Swerve Strickland and Monteasy on the Swerve City Podcast, Cole was asked about his goals now that he has returned.

“Although it may sound cliché, I genuinely mean it. I mentally prepared myself for a life without wrestling. It was an incredibly difficult prospect,” shared Cole.

When pressed on his potential alternatives if wrestling was no longer an option, Cole responded, “I considered streaming on Twitch. Perhaps I could delve into gaming. Maybe even open a wrestling school. I truly tried to ready myself for that scenario. However, now that I’ve been cleared and can travel, step into the ring, and wrestle, my primary goal is simply to continue doing what I love. That moment when I returned to face Daniel Garcia, with Britt, the fans, and the confetti falling, became the highlight of my career. It meant so much to me because, for months, I thought I might never return. Moving forward, of course, I have aspirations like climbing the ranks in AEW, competing for and potentially becoming a world champion, and exploring more incredible opportunities within wrestling. But now, when I wake up each day, I have an entirely new appreciation for this job. I never lost my love for wrestling, but after enduring what I did, I genuinely feel that every single week when I show up for TV, I say to myself, ‘I have the greatest job in the world. This is absolutely incredible.’ Wrestling week after week is my ultimate goal.”
