A recent update sheds light on the potential introduction of a secondary women’s championship in WWE NXT.
Following the WWE Draft, which led to Indi Hartwell vacating the NXT Women’s Championship and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn moving to SmackDown, the question of a secondary women’s title arose during the NXT Battleground media call.
While the men’s division boasts four championships, the women’s roster currently has only two.
In response to this topic, Shawn Michaels disclosed that he has toyed with the idea “now and then.” However, he believes that NXT provides the women’s roster with ample storylines and focuses more on individual development.
He further mentioned the loss of experienced veterans and leaders during the WWE Draft, resulting in a “very young locker room.”
Although he is not opposed to the concept of a secondary women’s championship, Michaels expressed a preference for thoroughly vetting out the women’s roster. He feels that introducing a secondary title to a “young” roster may pose challenges, as they might not be fully prepared for the championship role in NXT.
While the idea has been considered and remains a possibility, Michaels is not prepared to implement the plan at this time.
In the meantime, the vacant NXT Women’s Championship will be contested between Tiffany Stratton and Lyra Valkyria, with the winner becoming the 100th woman to hold a championship in WWE on Sunday
