In the fall of last year, Young was approached by Triple H about a potential return to WWE, but strictly in an in-ring capacity. Subsequently, he signed with the company in November 2022. However, just a few months later, Young requested his release.
Fightful Select has confirmed that Young asked for his release in April 2023, which was granted, and he recently completed his 90-day no-compete clause. According to WWE sources, this request came shortly after the announcement of Endeavor’s deal with WWE. It appears that Young’s decision was influenced by his unwillingness to work with Vince McMahon following the official return of McMahon in an executive capacity.
WWE sources revealed to Fightful that Young expressed moral, creative, and personal reasons for not wanting to work with Vince McMahon. As of now, Young is the only talent confirmed to have requested his release due to McMahon’s return. Additionally, there were some creative plans for Eric Young after WrestleMania, the details of which Fightful is working to verify.
