Major WWE Star Will Miss Summerslam With Injury

WWE SummerSlam is set to take place on Saturday, August 5, 2023, but there will be one notable absence from the match card. The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, held by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, will not be defended at the premium live event in Detroit.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the tag titles won’t be featured on the show due to Kevin Owens taking time off to recover from a broken rib. Meltzer confirmed that Owens had been working through the injury for a while, and it was previously uncertain if he would miss any more time.

The team of Owens and Zayn won the WWE Tag Team Championship from the Usos in the main event of WrestleMania 39 in April. Owens last wrestled on the July 17 edition of Raw, where he and Zayn defended their title against Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio. However, due to Owens’ injury, their title won’t be on the line at SummerSlam.
