CM Punk’s Potential WWE Return Discussed Behind the Scenes

Recent reports from Fightful Select have shed light on a surprising development in the wrestling world: CM Punk’s willingness to consider a return to WWE, a prospect that seemed improbable for years.

Following the controversial Brawl Out incident, CM Punk found himself sidelined due to surgery to address an injury sustained at All Out 2022. During this period, tensions still simmered between Punk and AEW, despite maintaining contact with AEW founder Tony Khan.

Sources close to Punk have revealed that around December 2022, he began entertaining the idea of departing from AEW, even expressing a desire to return to WWE. Specifically, there were indications that he envisioned making a cameo appearance at the 2023 Royal Rumble. However, there is no concrete information to suggest that WWE was actively pursuing this notion, nor that AEW was seriously considering granting Punk’s release at that juncture.

Interestingly, an unsubstantiated concept that Punk had considered reportedly circulated within WWE circles. This idea involved Punk making a surprise return at the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble, followed by a WrestleMania match against the individual who ultimately eliminated him from the Rumble. Within WWE, it was rumored that Kevin Owens was a name floated for this potential storyline, which would culminate in an appearance in the main event on night one of WrestleMania.

Please note that these details are based on reports from Fightful Select, and neither CM Punk nor his representatives have confirmed these claims.
