In a heartfelt address to the audience during the September 9 episode of AEW Collision, Bryan Danielson revealed his intentions to wind down his illustrious wrestling career. He emphasized his commitment to keeping a promise he made to his daughter but assured fans that if this indeed marked his last year in wrestling, it would be nothing short of epic.
With his AEW contract set to expire in September 2024, Danielson had previously stated that this would signify his final full-time run as a wrestler. As part of this epic farewell tour, Danielson announced a highly anticipated match against Zack Sabre Jr at AEW WrestleDream. The challenge was issued during his emotional promo, reviving a bout that had been originally scheduled for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022 but was derailed due to Danielson’s injury. The matchup was officially confirmed following Danielson’s announcement.

However, the night held more surprises for Danielson as Ricky Starks interrupted his promo. Acknowledging Starks’ earned respect in their strap match at AEW All Out, which Danielson won, the former offered Starks a potential spot in the Blackpool Combat Club. Yet, this offer was met with an unexpected attack from Starks and Big Bill.
Coming to Danielson’s rescue, Jon Moxley intervened, setting the stage for what promises to be an eventful and emotional final year in the career of Bryan Danielson.
