The line up for the 2023 edition of the “SUPER Jr. TAG LEAGUE” have been revealed. The tournament will take place on the Road to Power Struggle tour. 10 teams will take part in this years edition. While its sad to say that there are not any surprise entry teams it should still be a great tournament of Jr. Tag Team wrestling action.
You Can find the list of teams in the line up below.
NJPW “SUPER Jr. TAG LEAGUE 2023” Entry Teams:
- Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney (BULLET CLUB War Dogs) – IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions: Debut entry
- YOH & TBD: Debut entry
- Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita (Ichiban Sweet Boys – TMDK): Debut entry
- Francesco Akira & TJP (Catch 2/2 – United Empier): 2nd entry, 2nd consecutive
- Titan & BUSHI (Los Ingobernables De Japon): 2nd entry, 2nd consecutive
- Master Wato & El Desperado: Debut entry
- Yoshinobu Kanemaru & SHO (HOUSE OF TORTURE): Debut entry
- The DKC & Ryusuke Taguchi: Debut entry
- Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA (Intergalactic Jet Setters): 2nd entry, 2nd consecutive
- DOUKI & TAKA Michinoku (Just Five Guys): Debut entry
Intresting notes about this field of teams is that only 3 teams have been a team and entered this tournament before and them 3 where debutants last year. While the rest are either fresh new pairings or teams that formed some point after last years edition. While the rest of the teams maybe debutants, that does not mean they lack experience as some of the teams have old heads on there teams like the Coach Ryusuke Taguchi who will be trying to coach himself and his new partner The DKC to victory. The Just 5 Guys dew will see the veteran TAKA Michinoku team with DOUKI after his previous partner and J5G member Kanemaru jumped ship. Speaking of, Kanemaru will be teaming with SHO as the House of Torture team looks to cheat there way to victory.
Perhaps 2 of the bigger surprises maybe that TMDK’s Kosei Fujita will return to NJPW after graduating the young lion system and leaving for his excursion, or how TMDK put it a world tour. He will team with fellow TMDK member Robbie Eagles who he has been teaming with outside of NJPW. Will the now called tag team of ‘Ichiban Sweet Boys’ make a splash?
YOH has seemingly entered the tournament to represent the CHAOS faction but as for his partner it remains a mystery and is set to still be decided. Many belive that originally it was ment to be Lio Rush but due to illness wich made him miss the back half od the DESTRUCTION tour and his 3 way IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title match vs champion Hirmou and Mike Bailey. YOH replaced Lio Rush in the match since he was his friend and partner, but also pinning the champ Hiomu in a multi man tag match helped seal the deal with a some extra appeal made by YOH. Now who could be YOH’s partner, well it could still end up being Lio Rush if he is recovered and cleared to compete but if not then it will be something to watch out for as to who could end up teaming with YOH
The 10 teams will fight it out across two action packed weeks. The top two point scorers in this round robin single league format to see who will compete at Power Struggle on November 4. The action kicks off on October 21 and you can watch all the action of the Super Jr. Tag League/Road to Power Struggle on NJPW World!
