Alberto Del Rio Claims He Was Going To Make WWE Return Last Year

Alberto Del Rio’s statements are often taken with skepticism, akin to the certainty of death and taxes.

Absent from WWE since his 2014 firing, there have been periodic rumors, usually sparked by Del Rio himself, suggesting a potential return to the company. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Del Rio claimed post a match on October 5th that he was on the verge of rejoining WWE last year, right up until Vince McMahon lost power. Meltzer notes that Del Rio has made such assertions before, and each time, no return materialized.

Despite his brief WWE tenure, Del Rio achieved notable success, winning the Royal Rumble shortly after his debut, securing a Money in the Bank victory later that year. Subsequently, he went on to clinch the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and United States Championship, each on two occasions.
