NJPW announced establishment of a new championship

New Japan Pro Wrestling has officially revealed its plans to introduce a brand-new championship, intended to replace the current IWGP US (UK) Heavyweight Championship. This championship, currently held by Will Ospreay, when both championship belts where destroyed after the match against Shota Umino by David Finlay with a sldegehammer at “POWER STRUGGLE” in Osaka.

In a statement, Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi addressed the situation, explaining, “We recognize the confusion among fans regarding the identity of the IWGP US (UK) belt. To address this issue, we have decided to create a fresh championship. Further details regarding this development will be disclosed at a later date.”

This announcement brings about the potential for a significant change in the course of the Ospreay vs. Finlay vs. Jon Moxley 3-way match scheduled for January 4th. Instead of vying for the traditional US (UK) Championship, the victor may now have the honor of becoming the inaugural champion of this newly established title. However, as of right now the 3 way match is announced to be for the IWGP US (UK) Championship at this time.
