Drake Younger, known for his time as a WWE referee, has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling. Making the announcement on May 11, Younger expressed his desire to prioritize spending more time with his family, especially after suffering a broken back last year.
Having wrestled primarily for CZW and Big Japan Pro Wrestling before joining WWE in 2014, Younger’s career took a different turn when he transitioned to refereeing. However, he was released by the company in 2021 and went on to compete for XPW and Daily Wrestling.
Younger’s wrestling journey was not without controversy. He faced a suspension and garnered attention during the COVID-19 pandemic for his speeches opposing mask mandates at public meetings while still involved in the wrestling industry.
Reflecting on his career, Younger wrote on Instagram, “The ride has been amazing! However, it is well past time to start putting my family first… Breaking my back was a blessing in disguise and the slow down I personally needed.”
Fans worldwide have shown their support for Younger, and he expressed gratitude while asking for continued support and prayers for his family’s well-being
